Christopher Knight c.s. - The Hiram Key.
Pharaohs, Freemasons and the Discovery of the Secret Scrolls of Jesus.
A provocative "alternative history" of the origins of Freemasonry.
The authors, both Freemasons themselves, started with a simple question: Where did the Masonic candidate’s ritual of "rebirth"—centered on the murder of the architect Hiram Abiff—actually come from?
Their investigation leads them through several historical connections:
Ancient Egypt: They argue that the Hiram Abiff legend is not about a builder of Solomon's Temple, but is actually a coded retelling of the murder of the Egyptian Pharaoh Seqenenre Tao II.
The Jerusalem Church: The book suggests that Jesus and his brother James were leaders of a messianic group that practiced secret induction ceremonies.
These rituals, they claim, were the true "Lost Keys" of Freemasonry.
The Knights Templar: Knight and Lomas propose that the Templars excavated secret scrolls from beneath the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem.
These scrolls all egedly contained the ancient secrets of the Egyptian/Jewish rituals.
Rosslyn Chapel: According to the authors, when the Templars were suppressed, they fled to Scotland and hid these scrolls (and perhaps other treasures) beneath Rosslyn Chapel, where they eventually evolved into modern Freemasonry.
The "Key" itself refers to the idea that by understanding the Egyptian origins of the ritual, one can unlock the true, hidden history of Western civilization, linking the Pharaohs directly to the founding fathers of the United States.
